Former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni played a superb innings during the ODI series opener between both nations but he found himself amidst of trouble for his heroism. Dhoni is genius of a player when it comes to Decision Review System (DRS) and his success rate of it is phenomenal.
He took another brilliant DRS call during Dharamshala ODI, when umpire judged Jasprit Bumrah out leg before wicket. Bumrah started to walk back as soon as he saw that index finger but Dhoni opted for review straight away, which may put him in some trouble.
According to ICC’s law, the batsman who is given out by umpire can only send the case upstairs. The law reads “Only the batsman involved in a dismissal may request a Player Review of an Out decision.”
Here is what ICC ODI Playing Conditions say on Player Reviews under Section 3. The following paragraphs shall operate in addition to and in conjunction with paragraph 2 (Umpire Review).
3.1 Circumstances in which a Player Review may be requested
3.1.3 Only the batsman involved in a dismissal may request a Player Review of an Out decision and only the captain (or acting captain) of the fielding team may request a Player Review of a Not out decision.
