Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pace bowler Simarjeet Singh has credited legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni for playing a pivotal role in his development as a T20 bowler. He currently leads the wicket charts in the ongoing Delhi Premier League (DPL) and shared how Dhoni’s ability to simplify the game has significantly helped his performance in the T20 format.
Simarjeet, playing for East Delhi Riders in the DPL, claimed 15 wickets and caught the attention of cricketing enthusiasts with his clever use of back-of-the-length deliveries as well. His standout IPL 2024 performance, where he removed players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler, and Sanju Samson in CSK’s match against Rajasthan Royals, further helped him as well.
In an exclusive interview with PTI, Simarjeet said, “MS Dhoni has helped me develop as a better T20 bowler. I don’t think anyone knows more about T20 cricket than him. He has taught me a lot; it’s not just one thing. We always seek his advice, and he simplifies everything by saying that playing simple cricket is the best way to go.”

As Simarjeet Singh gears up for the return of senior players to domestic cricket in the upcoming 2024-25 season, he wants to continue learning and honing his skills as well.
“When senior India players return to domestic cricket, we get the chance to learn a lot from them. It’s something I’m really looking forward to,” he said. “I just want to keep playing cricket and contributing wherever I’m selected. My goal is to keep growing as a cricketer.”
“Youngsters come to me to discuss strategies for each game. This is a great opportunity for players in Delhi to show their skills and break into the state team,” Simarjeet Singh concluded.
