MS Dhoni, the iconic leader of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), is all set to mark his 18th consecutive season in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Despite stepping down as captain last season, handing the reins to Ruturaj Gaikwad, Dhoni’s influence on the franchise remains unmatched. Since his international retirement in 2020, questions about Dhoni’s IPL future have been a constant topic of discussion. As the IPL 2025 unfolds, speculation continues on whether this could be the final chapter of Dhoni’s illustrious playing career.

However, the man himself hinted at his dedication to CSK in a lighthearted comment during an interview with JioHotstar, suggesting, “Even if I am in a wheelchair, they will drag me.”

MS Dhoni played through a knee injury during IPL 2023, yet led CSK to their fifth title. After the season, he underwent knee surgery, and last year, he adapted to a new role as a finisher, batting lower down the order. His adaptability and leadership remain crucial for CSK’s success.

Former Indian batting great Sunil Gavaskar believes Dhoni’s critics are often left embarrassed. “Why should we even ask that question? Every time people question MS Dhoni, he proves them wrong,” Gavaskar said. “Even at this age, he’s hitting sixes not just past the boundary but into the stands during practice. Age is just a number when it comes to Dhoni.”
