MS Dhoni joined another elite list of cricketers

Former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is in exceptional form since the start of 2019. He has silenced his critics with fine batting display from his bat. MS Dhoni started his year with three successive fifties against Australia in the three-match One-Day International series in their own backyard. He then thrashed Kiwi bowling line-up in the first ODI. Hence, he has proved that age is just a number.

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni has entered into an elite list of Indian cricketers. During the recently concluded first ODI against Australia in Hyderabad, he completed 13,000 List A career runs and became the only fourth from his nation to achieve the feet. Legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly are the other Indian cricketers with this many List A runs.

The 37-year-old has amassed 13,054 runs in 412 List A matches at an average of 50.79 at the strike rate of over 87. Recently, Dhoni received the praises from the head coach of Team India Ravi Shastri, who said: “Players like Dhoni only come about once in 30-40 years.”

Dhoni notched up his fourth consecutive half-century against Australia during Hyderabad’s ODI. Earlier, he scored three successive fifties in Australia. Dhoni’s unbeaten 59-run innings helped India chasing down the total of 237 within 48.2 overs.

Earlier, in the first ODI against Australia, MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav knitted a match-winning stand of 141 runs for the fifth wicket to provide India a clinical win at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. At 99/4, things didn’t look rosy for the hosts after they lost the wickets of Captain Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ambati Rayudu in quick succession. But a cool and composed batting performance by Jadhav (unbeaten 81) and Dhoni (59*) helped India to cross the finishing line with 6 wickets in hand and 10 balls remaining.

The second One-Day International will take place on Tuesday in Nagpur’s Vidarbha Cricket Association.
