MS Dhoni Praises Rafael Nadal’s Inspirational Never-Give-Up Attitude As Tennis Legend Retires

Rafael Nadal, one of tennis’ most iconic and accomplished players, has announced his decision to retire, bringing an end to a truly remarkable career. The Spanish legend, revered for his relentless fighting spirit, revealed that the upcoming Davis Cup finals next month will be his last competitive tournament. Throughout his career, Nadal won an astounding 22 Grand Slam titles, solidifying his place as one of the greatest athletes in the sport’s history.

Beyond his achievements on the tennis court, Nadal’s dedication and resilience have earned him admiration from fans across the globe, including some of the biggest names in other sports. Among his admirers is former India cricket captain MS Dhoni. In a 2017 event, Dhoni shared why Nadal has long been his favourite tennis player.

“I’ve always found myself rooting for the No. 2 player, not consciously, but it’s just how things worked out,” MS Dhoni had said. “I supported Andre Agassi when he was No. 2, Steffi Graf when she was No. 2, and then Nadal came along as No. 2. Of course, he eventually became World No. 1.”

MS Dhoni further praised Nadal for his tenacity, stating, “What stands out for me about Nadal is his never-give-up attitude. Even when he’s on the brink of losing, he fights till the very last point. That determination is something I admire. He never throws in the towel, no matter the situation.”

Rafael Nadal will represent Spain one last time in the Davis Cup against the Netherlands in Malaga, from November 19-21. This event will mark the end of his legendary playing career. Nadal’s tennis journey began at just 15 years old, when he won his first ATP match in his hometown of Mallorca in 2002.

His first ATP title came two years later on the clay courts of Sopot, Poland. Out of his 22 Grand Slam victories, a record 14 were won at the French Open. He also captured titles at the Australian Open (2009, 2022), Wimbledon (2008, 2010), and the US Open (2010, 2013, 2017, 2019), leaving behind a legacy that will inspire generations to come.
