Legendary Indian wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni is set to represent the Chennai Super Kings once again in the upcoming Indian Premier League 2026 season, which begins on March 28. The 44-year-old veteran, widely regarded as one of the greatest captains in cricket history, remains one of the most beloved figures in the tournament.

Recently, Dhoni was spotted on a flight to Chennai, and the moment quickly became memorable for fellow passengers. As soon as fans recognised him, the aircraft cabin erupted with cheers and applause. The former India national cricket team captain acknowledged the excitement with a smile and even waved his boarding pass to greet the supporters, creating a mini stadium-like atmosphere mid-air.
Dhoni has been actively supporting Team India during their victorious campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He attended both the semi-final at Wankhede Stadium and the final at Narendra Modi Stadium. In a special moment after the final, Dhoni joined former captain Rohit Sharma on the field and walked out with the trophy, celebrating India’s historic triumph with the fans.

During the previous IPL season, Dhoni had to step back into the leadership role for Chennai Super Kings after captain Ruturaj Gaikwad suffered an elbow fracture and was ruled out of the tournament. Dhoni captained CSK in 10 matches, but the five-time champions struggled throughout the campaign. In a rare setback, Chennai finished at the bottom of the points table — the first time in IPL history that the franchise ended a season in last place.

Despite that disappointing campaign, the Chennai Super Kings have reaffirmed their long-term leadership plan. Gaikwad, who was retained for ₹18 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, will continue as captain heading into IPL 2026.

The upcoming season will also feature an interesting addition to the CSK squad. Sanju Samson, who was named Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup 2026, will represent Chennai after moving from the Rajasthan Royals in a major trade deal. In exchange, CSK transferred Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran to the Jaipur-based franchise.
With Dhoni’s presence, Gaikwad’s leadership, and Samson’s arrival, the Chennai Super Kings will be hoping to bounce back strongly in IPL 2026
