Many CSK fans have made up their minds and accepted that there are certain chances that MS Dhoni is playing his last season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and might not play in the next edition of the tournament. The talks of Dhoni’s retirement from IPL have been going on for years, but the veteran wicket-keeper batter continues to lead his team Chennai Super Kings (CSK) even now.

While attending an event along with members of the CSK fraternity, MS Dhoni was enquired about his retirement plans, to which he responded in a quirky manner saying: “There’s lot of time to take that call (Retirement). Right now, we have a lot of games and the coach will be under pressure if I say something.”

MS Dhoni relinquished CSK’s captaincy ahead of IPL 2022, as Ravindra Jadeja was appointed as the new skipper. But things went haywire for CSK as neither could Jadeja do justice to the role nor could he do well with his performances either with the bat or ball. As a result, Dhoni was reappointed as the captain, and Jadeja was later ruled out of the remainder of the tournament in the second half of IPL 2022.

However, things are going decently for the four-time champions in IPL 2023 as MS Dhoni has led the team to two wins, while they have also lost as many games so far. After CSK suffered a loss against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), MS Dhoni was very critical of the bowlers’ performances was they conceded a lot of wides and no-balls. Even in the campaign opener against Gujarat Titans, bowlers cost CSK the game.

After the LSG game, during the post-match presentation, MS Dhoni said: “What is important is to keep an eye as to what the opposition bowlers are doing. One more thing is they’ll have to bowl no no-balls or extra wides. Or they’ll have to play under a new captain. It will be my second warning and then I’ll be off. (laugh and smile).”

Since then, many have been discussing Dhoni’s retirement, and feel that the veteran won’t participate in the cash-rich event in 2024. But now, after the 41-year-old’s sarcastic reply, it is only Dhoni who knows the slightest of information about his future with the franchise, and only time will tell what is to come next.
