At 43, MS Dhoni may not wield the bat with the same dominance as before, but behind the stumps, he continues to defy age and expectations. In the high-voltage clash against Delhi Capitals, Dhoni once again reminded fans why he’s still revered as one of the sharpest wicketkeepers in the game, pulling off a sensational run-out to dismiss Ashutosh Sharma in the final over.

It was the third ball of the 20th over when Matheesha Pathirana bowled a full delivery on the stumps. Ashutosh nudged it towards deep square leg and looked to push for a risky second run. But he underestimated the brilliance of Ravindra Jadeja, who charged in and fired a rocket throw to the keeper’s end.

MS Dhoni, reading the play a step ahead as always, sprinted forward, collected the throw with precision, and dove full stretch to whip the bails off in one fluid motion. Ashutosh, despite a desperate dive, was caught short — a classic Dhoni-Jadeja masterclass in the field. Dhoni’s reflexes and game awareness continue to shine, proving he may have aged, but his instincts remain razor-sharp.

Throughout IPL 2025, his wicketkeeping has been flawless, adding immense value to CSK’s setup even if his batting returns are modest.

Delhi Capitals, powered by a superb 77 off 51 balls from KL Rahul, managed to post 183 on a slowing Chepauk pitch. They looked set for a 200-plus score at one stage, but CSK’s bowlers tightened the screws in the death overs. Pathirana was especially effective in the 18th and 20th overs, giving away very little and striking at key moments.

DC lost their way in the final stretch, managing just 45 runs in the last five overs and losing key wickets — including Rahul, Sameer Rizvi, and Ashutosh — in the process. While Rahul led the charge with a fluent knock, the middle and lower order couldn’t capitalize fully. Whether that total will be enough at Chepauk remains to be seen, but one thing is clear — MS Dhoni’s glovework is still box-office material.
