Renowned as one of India’s finest cricket captains, MS Dhoni boasts an impressive record, having secured victory in three ICC events during his leadership. Despite his legendary status, he maintains a refreshingly low-profile presence on social media and uses his phone sparingly.

While Dhoni bid farewell to international cricket, he continues to excel in the Indian Premier League (IPL), leading the Chennai Super Kings to a historic fifth IPL title earlier this year. What sets him apart is his humility and simple lifestyle, despite being one of the most accomplished and revered cricketers worldwide. While he does have accounts on various social media platforms followed by millions, Dhoni’s posts are few and far between.

During a recent public appearance, the wicketkeeper-batsman was asked about the benefits of staying disconnected from the digital world. Dhoni revealed that he rarely uses his phone, with the sole exception being setting an alarm for the morning. “Being disconnected helps a lot. I have a phone, but the only time I look at it is at night to set the alarm for the morning. So, for me, my phone’s primary function is to wake me up,” he quipped.

Reflecting on the perils of constant connection, Dhoni acknowledged that public figures, like himself, are subject to various opinions on social media. He advised young cricketers to avoid excessive use of mobile devices, especially during times of heightened pressure, such as tournaments or rough patches in their careers.

“When you’re playing for India or if you’re in the public eye, everyone has an opinion about you. Whether it’s positive or negative, people will express their thoughts. As humans, if you’re too immersed in social media or your mobile phone, spending excessive time there can lead to both positive and negative emotions,” MS Dhoni emphasized.

He further added, “Sometimes, even though you know a comment holds no relevance, as humans, it can affect your mood. So, especially before a tournament or during challenging phases, I always advise youngsters to distance themselves from their mobile devices.”

In the same event, a young fan asked Dhoni about the pressure of expectations prior to his retirement. The host playfully corrected the young man, reminding him that Dhoni had retired from international cricket, not the IPL. Dhoni playfully gestured towards a devoted Chennai Super Kings fan in the audience.

Following CSK’s victory over the Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023 finals, Dhoni expressed his commitment to push his body for another season, as a token of appreciation to his passionate fans. The team enjoyed massive support even in away games during this year’s IPL, with Dhoni’s charismatic leadership playing a pivotal role in building that unwavering fan base.
