Former BCCI Selector, MSK Prasad’s tenure witnessed a smooth transition as Virat Kohli took over the captaincy reins across all formats from MS Dhoni who hanged his captaincy boots in January 2017. Kohli had already led the Indian team for two years in Tests until then. Moreover, even Rohit Sharma has led the team in limited-overs cricket, a handful of times whenever Kohli has been rested.

Prasad reckons that the captaincy styles of the trio are completely different from each other. However, he said that all of them are equally good at their job. Over the years, India has been quite consistent across all the formats in recent times and the baton passing from Dhoni to Kohli and Rohit has done exceptionally well.

During an interview with Fancode, Prasad said, “If you look at fundamental styles, leadership has got so many different styles, these three are three different guys and I am sure all three are equally good.”

Speaking about Dhoni’s captaincy, MSK not surprisingly pointed out that the veteran cricketer is always calm and no many understand his plans before execution. He felt that Virat is very clear in his mind what to expect from his players and Rohit thinks from the players’ perspective while leading the team.

MSK Prasad explained, “They are three guys who have three different styles. Mahi is absolutely cool, you never know what is there in his mind until it is executed, he’s very very cool, and very very accommodative whereas Virat is pretty clear. He’s at you all the time, he’s very clear in his mind what he wants. If you are talking about Rohit, he’s more of an accommodative sort of guy. He definitely has that empathy towards other players and he thinks from their hats.”

Interestingly, irrespective of their different captaincy styles, team India’s graph has been going up in recent times across all the formats consistently which is more important.
