Former Indian chief selector, MSK Prasad has reiterated that Rahul Dravid is the ideal candidate to replace Ravi Shastri as India’s head coach. Shastri’s contract comes to a close after the T20 World Cup in the UAE and Dravid is the front runner to replace the World Cup winner.

It emerged on the night of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 final that Rahul Dravid is convinced to take the position of head och of Team India after T20 World Cup. Dravid met BCCI top brass, including president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah, in the UAE following which the National Cricket Academy chief gave his consent to be India’s next head coach.

MSK Prasad, who had worked with Shastri during his tenure as the chief selector, said Dravid will be able to easily adapt to the team environment after Shastri’s departure. Notably, Dravid worked with the Indian players as a temporary head coach during their tour of Sri Lanka earlier this year. Dravid oversaw a side led by Shikhar Dhawan in limited-overs series while Virat Kohli’s side was involved in the 5-Test series in England.

As per the quotes in ANI, MSK Prasad said, “I told earlier also that Rahul Dravid will be the best candidate for coach of Team India. He can gel up with Ravi Shastri and his team easily. In the tenure of Ravi Shastri, Team India did so well, won series in Australia. Back to back winning series is not an easy task and if we want this performance to continue then Rahul Dravid is the best option.”

Dravid is likely to bring his trusted aide and former Indian pacer, Paras Mhambrey who will replace Bharat Arun. However, batting coach Vikram Rathour is likely to continue with the senior national team. Rahul Dravid has been handed a 2-year contract which will see him oversee the team until the 2023 World Cup.
