Chennai Super Kings (CSK) returned to the winning ways after a captaincy change as the former and new skipper MS Dhoni marshaled his troops to a 13-run win against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. CSK openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway made a brilliant partnership of 182 runs to lead the run-scoring for the Men in Yellow.

Chasing a target of more than 200 runs was never going to be easy for the Sunrisers but CSK needed early wickets to restrict them. After overcoming a dropped catch, left-arm seamer, Mukesh Choudhary provided the breakthrough, not one but he scalped a couple of wickets on back-to-back deliveries to peg SRH back.

Mukesh Choudhary managed to get the wicket of Abhishek Sharma after the left-hander had got off to a flying start and then got rid of dangerous Rahul Tripathi on the very next delivery. The spinners, Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner managed to tighten the screws in the middle and the run rate crept up slowly and gradually.

After bowling just a couple of overs in the powerplay, Mukesh Choudhary returned to bowl his third in the 18th over of the innings and took a couple of more wickets as he managed to dismiss Shashank Singh and Washington Sundar in a span of three balls to take the match beyond SRH’s control. All-rounder Dwaine Pretorius conceded 12 runs in the penultimate over for Choudhary to have breathing space of defending more than 36 runs in the final over.

SRH needed 38 runs in the final over and Nicholas Pooran smashed three sixes and a four in the over. After the game, MUkesh Choudhary was asked what skipper Dhoni said before he came on to bowl the final over and the left-arm pacer said that his main advice was to not bowl a no-ball.

Explaining the same, Mukesh Choudhary said, “He just told me to bowl normally and even though I tried a couple of different deliveries, he just said bowl normally as they require a lot of runs. So just bowl normally and ‘Don’t give a no-ball.”

This was CSK’s third win of the tournament but they still have a huge mountain to climb as they need to win all of their remaining league matches to have a chance of qualification.
