Mumbai Indians have received a timely boost in IPL 2026 with the arrival of England all-rounder Will Jacks, whose absence had been keenly felt during the early phase of the tournament. After starting their campaign with promise, the Hardik Pandya-led side struggled for rhythm, slipping into a four-match losing streak before bouncing back with a dominant win over Gujarat Titans.

Jacks, who was signed for ₹5.25 crore at the IPL mega auction, had missed the first six matches due to personal reasons, reportedly taking an extended break. His return now comes at a crucial juncture as Mumbai look to build momentum in the second half of the season. The 27-year-old was spotted training with the squad ahead of their high-profile clash against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium, a fixture that could define their campaign.

From a team balance perspective, Jacks’ inclusion adds significant depth. Last season, he played 13 matches, scoring 233 runs at a strike rate of 135.46 and taking six wickets. His ability to impact games with both bat and ball makes him a valuable asset, especially in the dynamic T20 format.

Jacks also arrives in strong form, having played a key role in England’s impressive run to the semi-finals in the 2026 T20 World Cup. He amassed 226 runs and claimed nine wickets, earning four Player of the Match awards—joint-highest in the tournament.

Overall, his T20 credentials are hard to ignore. With over 6300 runs in 251 matches at a strike rate exceeding 156, along with five centuries and 42 fifties, Jacks brings proven firepower. In the IPL, he has already notched up 463 runs, including a century, in 21 matches.

Beyond numbers, his versatility is what strengthens Mumbai the most. Whether opening alongside Quinton de Kock or slotting into the middle order, combined with his useful spin option, Jacks provides the balance MI have been missing as they push to climb from seventh on the points table.
