In a thrilling encounter at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Gujarat Titans (GT) have started their innings on a high note against Mumbai Indians (MI). Batting first, GT managed to compile 66 runs without losing a wicket by the end of the first powerplay. The aggressive start was spearheaded by Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, whose attacking strokes have set the tone for the innings.

A dramatic moment unfolded in the sixth over when Sai Sudharsan attempted a pull shot on the fifth ball. The shot went towards Naman Dhir, and what followed was a scene of chaos on the field. Dhir hurriedly threw the ball, but with no proper backup, and despite Hardik Pandya’s valiant effort to cut off the play, the ball raced away for a four. This misfield resulted in a series of overthrows, ultimately adding four extra runs to the score—a moment that left Deepak Chahar visibly frustrated with the lapse in fielding discipline.

Despite the fielding drama, GT’s batsmen have continued to build their innings, and as of now, the hosts are 151/3 in 16 overs. However, Chahar’s performance with the ball has been underwhelming so far; he has failed to take a wicket and conceded 32 runs in his first three overs, which has added to MI’s concerns about their bowling consistency.

Meanwhile, MI’s captain Hardik Pandya defended the team’s decision to bowl first during the toss. “I am unsure about the pitch, and with dew being a factor, we decided to bowl first,” he explained. “Different soil plays differently, and batting second on a black soil pitch is always preferable. Our goal is clear: to perform as a team, back each other up, and overcome setbacks.”

Adding to the tactical discussion, Shubman Gill noted that the match conditions at the stadium have remained consistent over time. “They have batted first here many times, so the toss result may not change the outcome significantly,” he remarked. As MI looks to regroup and find their winning formula, all eyes remain fixed on this exciting contest in IPL 2025.
