As the much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) is all ready to start on March 22, the limelight will once again be on five-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians as they prepare for the 2025 season. The franchise has released its new jersey with new design and sponsors, much to the delight of the fans.

The launch video included a few of the Mumbai Indians’ biggest stars, such as ex-captain Rohit Sharma, pace sensation Jasprit Bumrah, destructive T20 batsman Suryakumar Yadav, and young talent Tilak Varma. A major highlight of the unveiling was the introduction of their new official kit partner, ‘Skechers.’
The video also included a heartfelt message from captain Hardik Pandya, who reflected on the team’s disappointing 2024 season and vowed to restore Mumbai Indians’ legacy.

“Dear Paltan, 2025 is our chance to take the legacy where it should be. Blue & gold on our backs, we will go onto the field to Play like Mumbai. This is not our jersey. This is a promise to you. Chala bhetu, Wankhede la (Let’s meet at Wankhede)!” Hardik Pandya has stated in the video, solidifying the team’s commitment to a return.

The Mumbai Indians took a risky call last season by making Pandya the captain, a decision that was heavily criticized by fans and cricket pundits. The change of leadership did not work as hoped, with MI having one of its worst seasons, and ending up at the foot of the table. In spite of the backlash, the franchise has stuck with Pandya, retaining him as skipper for IPL 2025.

Last season was one to forget for Mumbai Indians, who could muster only four victories from 14 games. The team’s highest run-getter was Rohit Sharma, who scored 417 runs at an average of 32.07 with a strike rate of 150. Bowling-wise, Jasprit Bumrah was the most impressive player, picking up 20 wickets at an average of 16.80 and an economy rate of 6.48.
With a new season coming, Mumbai Indians will be desperate to change fortunes and retake their supremacy in the IPL.
