Mumbai police have informed Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) that they would not be able to give the security cover for the T20I match between India and West Indies on December 6 because of their other commitments on an aforesaid day. However, MCA officials will soon meet the Joint Commissioner, Law and Order to discuss this issue because the match is scheduled on the same day with Ambedkar Mahaparinirvan Day and the anniversary of Masjid demolition. The first game of the upcoming three-match T20I series against the West Indies is scheduled to be played in Mumbai on December 6.

Moreover, sources said that MCA has been asked to shift the game out of the city. The police will be busy for another duty as it marks Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s death anniversary during which millions of his followers will be at Shivaji Park. Even, the extra precautions will be taken as it will be the first anniversary of Babri masjid demolition after the Supreme Court gave verdict on the Ayodhya issue.

On the other hand, MCA will be seen requesting police to provide at least 20% of police security as they are expecting to manage the rest of the security through private security agencies. If MCA does not get a good response from the Mumbai police they are likely to inform BCCI about the matter.

However, BCCI is likely to postpone the game by a day because Mumbai is always a good choice for the cricket match to take place. If there is the issue of security, BCCI might look to postpone the game by a day as well. The Wankhede Stadium is one of the most popular cricket grounds in the country which usually see the sold-out tickets for most international matches which includes India.
