The Indian opener, Murali Vijay issued an early warning to the Australian bowlers as he slammed a scintillating century on the fourth day of team’s warm-up clash against Cricket Australia XI at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday. Earlier, when India’s innings started, chances of Vijay scoring a century were very less, but the manner in which he scored the runs was especially noteworthy.

Vijay crossed the 50-run mark in 91 deliveries but accelerated is innings so effortlessly that he went on to score the next fifty off just 27 deliveries to complete his ton. However, the day ended with his dismissal, when D’Arcy Short scalped him in the 44th over of the innings but by then, he had already done the damage. In the course of his knock of 129 runs, Murali scored 16 boundaries and five huge sixes and while walking back into the hut in just 132 deliveries.

The 39 over of the third innings came into the limelight which was bowled by Jake Carder as Vijay went berserk in that over. The Indian opener played some furious cricket in that part-timer’s over and with the help of two sixes over the cow corner and three boundaries, Murali Vijay smashed 26 runs in the Carder’s over.

Even KL Rahul got back his form in the second innings as he scored 62 off 98 balls. With Prithvi Shaw ruled out due to injury, Rahul and Vijay are likely to open the innings for India and the duo stitched together a timely 100-run opening stand has cleared a lot of doubts regarding the Indian opening combinations. 

Both Vijay and Rahul will take immense confidence from their respective innings in the warm-up clash over to the first Test against Australia which will be played at the Adelaide Oval, starting December 6.
