Tamil Nadu’s wicketkeeper-batter Narayan Jagadeesan etched his name in cricket history by smashing six consecutive fours in a single over during the Vijay Hazare Trophy preliminary quarter-final against Rajasthan at Kotambi Stadium, Vadodara. This extraordinary feat showcased Jagadeesan’s form and precision at the crease.

Opening alongside Tushar Raheja, Jagadeesan signalled intent early in the innings. After Khaleel Ahmed’s first over yielded 10 runs, the stage was set for the fireworks. The real carnage began in the second over bowled by Aman Shekhawat.

The over started poorly for Shekhawat, with a wide delivery that went for five extras. Jagadeesan seized the opportunity, slashing the first legitimate ball over the slips for four. The next delivery was deftly guided past the point for another boundary. He continued his assault, dispatching a short delivery over the slips for four more as a misfield compounded Rajasthan’s woes.

Shekhawat adjusted his line to target the body, but Jagadeesan’s response was emphatic. He pulled through midwicket for his fifth boundary of the over. The final ball, bowled towards the leg side, was elegantly flicked through fine leg to complete the historic sequence. The over ended with a staggering 29 runs, marking the most ever scored in a List A cricket over without a six.

Jagadeesan’s blitzkrieg was a nightmare for Shekhawat, who struggled to find rhythm or accuracy. As expected, he wasn’t reintroduced into the attack. Jagadeesan’s 65 off 52 balls, including 10 boundaries, set the tone for Tamil Nadu. Despite Rajasthan’s bowlers regaining some control later, the early onslaught left a lasting impact.

Earlier in the match, Rajasthan, having been put in to bat, posted a competitive 267 in 47.3 overs. Opener Abhijeet Tomar’s brilliant century anchored the innings, while skipper Mahipal Lomror’s explosive 49-ball 60 added vital runs. Kartik Sharma’s late flourish ensured Rajasthan crossed the 250-run mark. Tamil Nadu’s Varun Chakravarthy shone with the ball, claiming a remarkable 5-52 in nine overs.

In reply, Tamil Nadu’s chase saw a mix of dominance and resilience. After the electric start, Rajasthan bowlers clawed back, testing Tamil Nadu’s batting depth. As the match entered its final stages, the outcome remained uncertain, with both sides battling hard for a spot in the next round.
