The viral 1980s AI trend has taken social media by storm, with celebrities, athletes, politicians and everyday users transforming their modern-day appearances into glamorous retro versions. The trend uses artificial intelligence to recreate the distinctive style of the decade, complete with colourful outfits, voluminous hairstyles, bold makeup and a grainy visual effect that captures the feel of the 80s.
Former England fast-bowling great Stuart Broad recently joined the trend, but he took it a step further by creating retro-inspired AI images of several former and current England cricket personalities. Broad shared a series of pictures featuring the likes of Nasser Hussain, Chris Woakes, Mark Butcher and others on Instagram, and the post quickly attracted plenty of attention online.

Nasser Hussain, who is currently part of the commentary team for the third Test between England and Pakistan at Edgbaston, soon came across Broad’s Instagram post.

Rather than simply reacting to the images, Hussain decided to provide his own hilarious descriptions of the retro transformations. His observations left Broad and fellow commentator Ian Ward struggling to contain their laughter. In a clip shared by Sky Sports Cricket, Hussain revealed that he had noticed Broad laughing in the green room before discovering the reason behind it.
“Stuart Broad, I saw you giggling in the green room. I wonder what you were laughing at and then I went to your Insta feed and saw you with your boys and girls of the summer,” Nasser Hussain said.

Hussain then turned his attention to Broad’s striking appearance, joking about his hairstyle and fashion choices. “Hair extensions on the hair extensions. Your dress code hasn’t changed at all over the years,” he remarked. He also recognised former England captain Eoin Morgan in one of the AI-generated images, joking about his appearance ahead of his 40th birthday.

However, the funniest moment came when Hussain described his own retro transformation. “And then the absolute best. Look at the guns on that. How sharp am I? Look at the hair. What happened to me? Seriously!” Hussain said. The hilarious commentary left Broad and Ward in fits of laughter, creating another memorable moment from the commentary box.
