Australian cricket legend Nathan Lyon has made a heartfelt gesture by donating three signed bats, including those featuring autographs of Indian cricket stars Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, to the National Cricket Inclusion Championships (NCIC). As the brand ambassador for the NCIC, Lyon has been a passionate advocate for inclusivity and creating opportunities for athletes with disabilities to excel in cricket.

In addition to his donation, Lyon actively participated in a net session with players with intellectual disabilities, further highlighting his commitment to the cause. Each of the donated bats carries the phrase “a sport for all” inscribed in Braille, symbolizing the inclusive spirit of cricket. Lyon expressed his joy at inspiring young athletes, emphasizing the importance of his role as a mentor
. “The position we’re in as role models—if we can inspire boys and girls to go out there and play this beautiful game, which I believe is a sport for all, then it’s worth it,” Nathan Lyon told Cricket Australia.

The three bats donated by Lyon are unique pieces of memorabilia. One bat includes signatures from Indian pace ace Jasprit Bumrah and Australian skipper Pat Cummins. Another features autographs of batting maestros Steve Smith and Virat Kohli. The third bat, signed by Lyon himself, also bears the signature of former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

These bats were signed during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, adding historical significance to the donation. The NCIC, scheduled from January 19 to 25, 2025, will bring together 22 teams from across Australia, competing in divisions such as Blind & Low Vision Mixed, Blind & Low Vision Women, Cricketers with an Intellectual Disability, and Deaf & Hard of Hearing categories for both men and women.

“These players are representing South Australia in Brisbane, so in my eyes, they are playing state cricket. Hopefully, they can put their hands up for international selection in the Australian ID team,” Nathan Lyon added, underscoring his support for the athletes’ aspirations.
