Former India player Parthiv Patel has applauded Australia spinner Nathan Lyon, saying that he has put India under pressure at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Lyon claimed four wickets against India in the second Test of the four-match Border-Gavaskar series. While speaking to Cricbuzz, Patel said Lyon bowled quite well against India on Day 2, adding that he changed his pace and was faster as compared to Nagpur as well.

“The Indian team must be shocked by the way Lyon has bowled. Nathan Lyon bowled really well today, the speed at which he bowled. In Nagpur, he was bowling a bit slower which gave the batter some more time to play his shots. Here, he was bowling a lot faster, he’s changed his pace,” said Patel.

“Even during Rohit Sharma’s dismissal, the speed of the ball was more than normal, which is why Rohit could not get his bat down in time. Lyon has bowled really well and kept the pressure on from both ends,” Parthiv Patel further added.

“When you play on wickets on black soil, you have to bowl at the stumps because you don’t get much bounce, the ball stays down and skids also. When you bowl on the stumps, if the ball spins then there’s a chane to get an outside edge and there’s a chance of an LBW if the ball stays straight, which we saw in Pujara’s dismissal. The plan should be to bowl from stump to stump, and if there’s any natural variation that can help. This way, there’s an increased chance of picking up a wicket,” concluded Parthiv Patel.
