When asked by the show’s host what ‘Bazball’ is, Nathan Lyon replied, “Well, I’m 2-0 up against Bazball, so I’m pretty happy,” prompting laughter from the hosts.

For context, Nathan Lyon was part of the first two tests of the five-match Ashes series against England in July 2023. He picked up nine wickets in the series before being ruled out of the rest of the matches due to a calf injury, his first injury layoff in a career that has seen him feature in 100 consecutive Tests.

Nathan Lyon didn’t hold back in sharing his thoughts on ‘Bazball’. “To me, it’s a load of s**t, if you ask me,” he stated. “It’s a brand of English cricket that they want to keep going. It’s even in the dictionary now, which is remarkable, isn’t it?” he added sarcastically.

Australia managed to retain the Ashes with the series ending in a 2-2 draw. Australia won the first two games in Birmingham and Lord’s.

Nathan Lyon is now reportedly eyeing a return to cricket in the Sheffield Shield, which would provide him with some game time ahead of Pakistan’s tour of Australia starting on December 14, 2023.

Lyon has been a crucial part of Australia’s success in the longest format. The off-spinner holds an impressive record in Test cricket for Australia, having played 122 matches and taken 496 wickets. He is on the verge of reaching the 500-wicket milestone, which would further cement his status as one of the best spinners in the red-ball format.
