India’s latest sporting sensation, Navdeep Singh, was recently in the news after he clinched gold in the men’s javelin throw F41 category by throwing an astonishing 47.32 meters in the final itself. His performance on September 7 was a moment in Indian sports history, catapulting him into the limelight.
Recently, while interviewing Navdeep, the question he was asked was which cricketer he was more of a fan of, MS Dhoni or Virat Kohli?. Much to everyone’s surprise, he even spoke about the fact that his idol happens to be the present Indian skipper in test cricket, Rohit Sharma. He recalled every moment when he started following Rohit with much devotion and a special double-century that still resonates in his memory.
“Rohit Sharma. He plays very well. He had scored a double-century. What an innings that was! I’ve been his fan since then,” Navdeep revealed on an episode of “Unplugged.”

Though Navdeep did not particularise which double century he was talking about, three of Rohit Sharma’s ODI double centuries came versus Australia in 2013 and versus Sri Lanka in both 2014 and 2017.
Rohit recently led India to the most historic victory ever in the T20 World Cup 2024, where he finished up being the highest run-scorer of the tournament with 257 runs after eight innings. He has added this to his legacy since he was part of India’s winning squad for the first edition of the T20 World Cup.
After announcing his retirement from T20Is, the focus now strictly for Rohit has to be on ODIs and Tests. The former has withdrawn himself from the on-going Duleep Trophy, much-needed rest before a home season that stretches over quite a long time. Rohit Sharma will regain action in Tests against Bangladesh whose Test series commences on September 19.

In October, India will feature in a three-test home series against New Zealand after the two-match series against Bangladesh. Then they host the most contested five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy, going to Australia. Next year, Rohit aims to regain the Champions Trophy – which was lost by India in the last edition in Pakistan.
