Former India cricketer and commentator Navjot Singh Sidhu heaped praise on Rishabh Pant, calling him “a phoenix that has risen from the ashes” after his remarkable return to international cricket. Pant’s comeback marks an emotional moment in Indian cricket, following his life-threatening car accident in December 2022.

The wicketkeeper-batter is now leading India A in a four-day match against South Africa A starting October 30 at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. This game also marks his return to competitive cricket after recovering from a fractured foot sustained during the Manchester Test earlier this year.
Ahead of the match, Sidhu spoke glowingly about Pant’s fearless attitude and unwavering spirit, recalling some of his most iconic knocks — from his match-winning innings in Australia and England to his gritty comeback performance during the T20 World Cup in Nassau County last year.

“Rishabh Pant is a phoenix that has risen from the ashes,” Navjot Sidhu said on Star Sports. “No one thought he could even walk again after that accident. His courage and fearless approach are extraordinary. The way he batted in Australia, the innings in Nassau County, and his performances in England show his greatness. Pant defines resilience — watching him play is pure joy. He has shown the world how to rise above adversity.”

Pant’s return as captain of India A marks not just a comeback, but a story of resilience and inspiration. His journey from near tragedy to leading his country once again stands as a testament to his determination and love for the game.
