Former India cricketer and renowned commentator Navjot Singh Sidhu has voiced strong criticism of Karun Nair’s recent performances in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, suggesting that the batter’s technical flaws have been laid bare. Nair, who earned a recall to the Test side following consistent domestic showings and the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, has failed to capitalise on the opportunity.

In six innings so far, he has managed just 131 runs at an average of 21.83 — a disappointing return given the expectations from a player of his calibre. Karun Nair had once lit up the international stage with a remarkable triple-century in only his third Test, but since then, his career has struggled to find momentum.

While many hoped that this second chance would reignite his potential, Sidhu believes the flaws in his technique have come to the surface. “Karun Nair is undoubtedly talented, but his technical weakness has been exposed,” Navjot Sidhu stated on his YouTube channel.

Sidhu also expressed disappointment over how India handled young talent Sai Sudharsan, who was dropped after just one Test. Sudharsan debuted in the opening match of the series at Leeds, where he scored 0 and 30 in his two innings, and has since been sidelined.

“The real question is: are you playing to win or to build a team? If the goal is to win, then why drop Sai Sudharsan after just one match?” Navjot Sidhu asked. He praised Sudharsan’s recent form and technique, highlighting his Orange Cap win in the IPL, and described him as “technically sound, with great hand-eye coordination and balance — a low-gravity batter with a strong base.”
With India trailing 1-2 in the five-match series, the pressure is mounting. Reports suggest Sudharsan is likely to return for the fourth Test in Manchester, with Nair set to make way.
