With two consecutive wins under their belt, India is on the brink of securing a spot in the Super 8 of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. The team’s success can largely be attributed to their exceptional bowling performance, while key batters like Rishabh Pant and captain Rohit Sharma have made significant contributions.

As India prepares for their match against the USA, former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu has weighed in on potential team strategies, suggesting that while there’s no need to alter the winning combination, introducing Kuldeep Yadav could be beneficial if the team can afford to bench either Ravindra Jadeja or Axar Patel.

Navjot Singh Sidhu emphasized the importance of maintaining the current team dynamics, given their recent success. He believes that the team’s existing combination is effective and should not be tampered with unless absolutely necessary. However, he pointed out that the conditions in the West Indies might favour spinners, making Kuldeep Yadav a potentially valuable addition to the squad.

“There is no need for any experimentation when you have the winning habit and rhythm. If it ain’t broke, don’t mend it. Many times an arrow is flying and you take it on your back. There is no need for that because you have a combination,” Navjot Singh Sidhu commented on Star Sports.

Sidhu further elaborated that the main challenge for the team management is to maintain the right balance within the playing XI. He suggested that if India does not require the batting capabilities of both Jadeja and Patel against the USA, they could consider bringing in Kuldeep Yadav.

“The biggest jigsaw is to fit the combination. Team combination is different, different blocks and you have to fit those blocks. You have that combination. Yes, you can do one thing: if you don’t want batting from your two spinners against the USA, you can bring in Kuldeep Yadav,” he added.

Highlighting Kuldeep’s unique bowling style, Sidhu noted that his trajectory and delivery can pose significant challenges to the batsmen, making him an exciting option. He also acknowledged that Axar Patel’s performance against Pakistan was commendable, which presents a dilemma for the team management in deciding whether to replace him.

“You (the batters) are playing balls that are coming straight but either Kuldeep or Yuzi Chahal delivers the balls above eye level. So it can happen that you say he (Kuldeep) can come in place of Axar. However, Axar performed splendidly in the last match. So it is a dilemma,” Navjot Singh Sidhu concluded.
