Recently, Ranveer Singh was given the lead role for the upcoming movie ’83 as Kapil Dev, another veteran actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has become the latest addition to the cast and crew as he will now be playing the role of the coach of the Indian cricket team that lifted the 1983 World Cup. Although the film will be directed by Kabir Khan, the widespread rumor is that Siddiqui will indeed play the role.
Fondly known as Kapil’s Devils, the Indian team of 1983 beat the odds to secure a victory in the World Cup when they defeated the star-heavy West Indies. The latter was a star-studded squad comprising of the stalwarts like Viv Richards, Andy Roberts, and Clive Lloyd. However, with some fantastic cricket on the day, the Indians bowlers bundled out the Windies team for a meager score of 140, thus winning the World Cup for the first time in their history.
