The first T20I of the 3-match series between India and New Zealand at Ferozshah Kotla saw the limelight being stolen by the Delhi boys in the Indian team featuring Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, and Ashish Nehra. Dhawan looked in fabulous touch while Kohli finished off the Indian innings with a brilliant cameo.

But it was Nehra was actually the show-stopper when he bowled the final over of the cricketing career. With a comprehensive win over the Kiwis, the young Indian team provided a grand farewell to Nehra on his home ground.

After the match, Dhawan and Kohli went ahead and visited Nehra’s place to ask for blessings from the southpaw’s parents. Nehra, Dhawan and Kohli, all have been pillars for Delhi in the domestic cricket for a number of years now. It is learned that both Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli have been taking blessing from Diwan Singh since their childhood days.

As per the reports of Kashmir Times, Nehra’s father Diwan Singh said, “After the match, Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan came to us and sought our blessings. Virat and Shikhar are Ashish’s friends and since their childhoods, they have been coming to our house. Me, my wife Sumitra, Ashish’s wife (Rushma) and his two children Arush and Anana) were at the ground yesterday.”

He further added, “This was the first time I went to see his last international match. I had never watched his game from the ground. Once we went to England (IN 2002) to see him play but he was a 12th man in the Test and on another occasion, we reached late when the ODI series was over.”

According to Nehra’s father, post-retirement, Ashish Nehra is willing to look after his academies in Uttar Pradesh. He concluded, “Ashish Nehra will decide about his post-retirement plan very shortly. He has few academies in Uttar Pradesh and he will also continue to monitor the same.”
