Tilak Varma, the 20-year-old rising star, faced disappointment from fans on X (formerly Twitter) as he encountered back-to-back failures against the Ireland National Cricket Team in the ongoing three-match T20I series. Having gained prominence with an impressive debut T20I series against the West Indies National Cricket Team, Tilak Varma had become a significant name in Indian cricket circles.
Tilak Varma’s consistent performances in all five matches of the T20I series against West Indies earned him recognition, as he emerged as India’s top run-scorer with 173 runs at an average of 57.66 and a strike rate of 140.65.

Backed by individuals like Ravi Shastri, the 20-year-old, who represents the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), had been suggested as a potential inclusion in India’s World Cup squad. There were even suggestions that he could be India’s No.4 batsman in the upcoming World Cup. However, his prospects may have taken a hit due to his underwhelming performance in the ongoing T20I series against Ireland.
In the first match of the series, Tilak Varma suffered a golden duck at Malahide, Dublin. His struggles continued in the second T20I where he managed just a 2-ball 1, attempting a pull shot that resulted in a catch by Dockrell.

This marked his second consecutive single-digit score against the Irish team in T20Is, following in the footsteps of Virat Kohli. As Tilak Varma was dismissed for 1 while batting at No.3, fans took to X to express their opinions on his performance. Some fans attributed his struggles to overconfidence, while others speculated that his chances of making it to the World Cup squad were diminishing.
Tilak Varma’s strategy is clear. He saw what happened with Deepak Hooda after a successful Ireland tour and planned accordingly.

Failures will always be there. No player can perform consistently without failures.

This is problem with young players as soon as they are being looked upon as bright future star & talks come up of them to be selected in primary XI they just start to falter.
Very wrong time for #TilakVarma to get 2 failure, don’t want him to be disregarded as NO.4 solution 🤞

Tilak Varma for #CWC23 anyone? Classic case of jumping the gun. If he would have scored centuries in all 3 T20Is against Ireland, he shouldn’t have been picked. #IREvIND
