Shreyas Iyer’s promising start on Day 2 of the first Test between India and England turned into disappointment as he failed to capitalize on his good form. The right-handed batsman, who looked set for a substantial innings, was dismissed for 35 runs off 63 balls. Rehan Ahmed bowled a deceptive wrong ‘un, and Iyer, playing with the turn, attempted a slog over the on-side, only to find Tom Hartley at deep mid-wicket.
The dismissal ended a promising 64-run partnership between Iyer and KL Rahul. Despite a good start, Iyer’s inability to convert into a significant score drew mixed reactions from fans on social media. Some expressed frustration, with one user even speculating that Iyer might be dropped once Virat Kohli returns for the third Test.

In response, India reached 275/4 after 61 overs, with KL Rahul unbeaten on 84 off 109 balls. Yashasvi Jaiswal contributed significantly with a brisk innings of 80 runs off 74 deliveries, featuring three sixes and 10 boundaries.

Following his dismissal, fans on social media platforms like X expressed mixed reactions, with some lamenting the missed opportunity for Iyer and speculating about his future in the team.
Well played, Shreyas Iyer.
He scored 35 runs from 63 balls against England in first Test Match – A good Knock by Shreyas.

Shreyas Iyer dismissed for 35 runs. How’s he playing Test cricket with just 1 hundred in 13 matches while players like Sarfaraz Khan are not getting a chance even with first-class average of 70? 🇮🇳👎🏼👎🏼 #INDvsENG pic.twitter.com/Va7uQXq6s0

What a waste of opportunity. Shreyas Iyer will be dropped as soon as Virat kohli comes at the 3rd Test match.

Already 90% people don’t want Shreyas Iyer in the team and he is giving them full chance that he should be dropped

Sunny is right when he says “ what a waste of a wicket” about the Shreyas Iyer dismissal. Iyer doesn’t seem to learn. Gill going down the same route. Soft dismissals when you are well set should hurt the most.

Most inconsistent shreyas iyer. Doesn’t deserve to be in indian team

Shreyas Iyer is immature, can never succeed at Test Level.
Threw his wicket away.#INDvsENG— Rishabh Wadhwa (@Cric_Rishabh) January 26, 2024

I have seen so much of Shreyas Iyer post IPL 2023. He is playing well with a good nick but unable to convert starts into 50s or 100s. Apart from few innings he struggled to score runs. If this continues Shreyas Iyer might lose his spot from Indian team
