Fans on X expressed their outrage over the controversial dismissal of Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis during the ICC World Cup 2023 match between Australia and South Africa at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. The Proteas displayed formidable bowling skills throughout the match.
The contentious decision unfolded in the second innings of the game, causing a stir among fans. During the 18th over, Kagiso Rabada delivered a back-of-a-length ball down the leg side. Marcus Stoinis attempted a deft glance, resulting in the ball grazing the edge of his glove through to the wicketkeeper.

However, the impact was with the back of his hand, rather than the handle, making the situation quite confusing. Initially, the on-field umpire ruled it not out, but South Africa decided to refer the decision to the third umpire. After a considerable delay, the third umpire surprisingly overruled the decision and declared Stoinis out.
Subsequently, the square leg camera angle indicated that the bottom hand was indeed separated from the top one, confirming that the all-rounder was not out. It was an unfortunate turn of events for Australia.

Stoinis was not out. His hand was neither in touch with the bat nor with the other hand.

Stoinis was unlucky there.
Umpiring has been good so far in this tournament, but this one was a brain fade from the 3rd umpire. pic.twitter.com/M28o7aKKsF

I reckon that’s a mistake… The right hand side makes it look as if the hands are touching, but the left hand side surely shows that they aren’t pic.twitter.com/Fld9R6IAqf
