New Australian head coach Justin Langer backed the banned trio Steven Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft and wants to welcome back them in the national squad once they meet the Australian cricket team standards.

The ball-tampering incident in the Cape Town Test during March shook the Australian cricket team. While skipper Steven Smith and vice-captain David Warner have been suspended for one year from the international and domestic cricket due to leading that incident, young opener Cameron Bancroft has been suspended for nine months from the international cricket.

Later, the head coach Darren Lehman stepped down from that important role despite getting the clean-chit to having no involvement in that controversial incident.

On Thursday morning, Cricket Australia (CA) announced Justin Langer’s name as the head coach of Australian men’s cricket team.

The former Australian Test opener shows his support for the banned-trio cricketers as he wants their comeback in international cricket.

Speaking on that, Langer said, “Cameron Bancroft and Steve Smith, literally besides Mike Hussey, love the game of cricket more than anyone I know. They are cricket tragics and they’re great kids and that’s why it’s such a surprise they made the mistake they did I think. They’re great kids, they’ve made mistakes, we’ve all made mistakes, we can all get better at things.”

Langer praised David Warner’s cricketing style as he said that he loves the way Warner plays his cricket.

Talking about that, Langer said, “Davey Warner is the same. He’s a really good young bloke, he made a mistake. I love the way he plays his cricket. I’m a cricket tragic, the way he runs between the wickets, the way he fields, the way he bats, they’re things that for the less trained eye, you might not respect that as much but I love the way he plays his cricket.”

However, the 47-year-old also clarified that the trio needs to meet the standards of the Australian cricket team for making a comeback in the national squad.

Langer spoke on that, “If we can keep mentoring them and helping them and they want to keep getting better and they want to meet the standards of the Australian cricket team, then, of course, they’ll be welcomed back.”
