Tensions boiled over during India’s Super Four clash against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025, as players from both sides engaged in fiery exchanges. The drama unfolded right from the start of India’s chase when Abhishek Sharma launched Shaheen Afridi’s very first delivery into the stands for a magnificent six, setting the tone for an aggressive pursuit.

The situation escalated towards the end of the fifth over when Haris Rauf found himself in a heated confrontation with Abhishek and Shubman Gill. The spat was intense enough to force on-field umpire Gazi Sohel to step in and calm things down.

Adding to the spectacle, a viral clip on social media captured Rinku Singh pulling Gill away from the fray to avoid further escalation. Interestingly, Rinku and Harshit Rana were only on the field to deliver refreshments at the time, but their quick intervention prevented the altercation from spiralling.

Despite the tempers, the match itself was one-sided. India’s bowlers restricted Pakistan to 171/5 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium before the batters cruised to victory in just 18.5 overs. Abhishek was the star of the chase, blasting 74 off 39 balls with six fours and five sixes, while Gill added a brisk 47 off 28 deliveries. Their partnership laid the foundation before the middle order sealed India’s dominance.

Such has been India’s command in recent T20I encounters with Pakistan that Suryakumar Yadav, who led the side in this fixture, downplayed the rivalry altogether. “I don’t think this should even be called a rivalry anymore,” he remarked. “If two teams are evenly matched, that’s a rivalry. But if one keeps dominating—whether it’s 13-0 or 10-1—that’s just superior cricket.”

India’s emphatic win only reinforced that sentiment.
