New Zealand have suffered a double injury setback ahead of their upcoming five-match T20I series against India, with Mark Chapman and Zak Foulkes ruled out of the contest. The series is scheduled to begin in Christchurch on October 22 and conclude in Hamilton on November 1. Chapman is recovering from a tear to his left hamstring, which he sustained during the European T20 League last month.

Meanwhile, fast bowler Foulkes suffered an injury to his right hip flexor during a recent training session with Canterbury, ruling him out of the upcoming series. The 32-year-old Chapman has played 113 T20Is for New Zealand and is an experienced option in the team’s batting lineup. Although he will miss the T20I series against India, he is expected to recover in time for the subsequent ODI series. Foulkes, however, has no confirmed return date as he continues his recovery.
To cover the absences, New Zealand have added all-rounder Josh Clarkson and fast bowler Blair Tickner to the squad. Both players will have an opportunity to make an impact in the high-profile series against India.

“I’m gutted for Mark and Zak and I wish them both a smooth recovery,” Rob Walter said. “We’re fortunate to be able to lean on the expertise of Josh and Blair. I know they’re both very excited to be involved in what’s shaping up to be an epic T20 series.”
The five-match T20I series against India will be an important test for New Zealand as they adjust their plans following the late injury withdrawals. With Clarkson and Tickner joining the squad, the hosts will look to maintain their competitiveness against a strong Indian side.
