Nicholas Pooran has emerged as the batting backbone for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2025. The explosive West Indian has been in red-hot form, currently leading the Orange Cap race with 288 runs from five matches, including three half-centuries. His most impactful knock came against Kolkata Knight Riders, where he hammered an unbeaten 87 and played a pivotal role in LSG’s narrow four-run win.

But before that high-octane clash, Pooran found himself in a rather spicy situation off the field. In a lighthearted training session, LSG coach Justin Langer introduced a quirky punishment for the losers of an intra-squad football match: eat green chillies. Pooran’s team lost, and what followed was both hilarious and painful.

“The losing team has to have some chillies. This is like being in jail. When we give it to you, you’ve got to eat it. You just can’t toss it in and then throw it in the bubble later,” joked Justin Langer in the dressing room, much to the amusement of the squad.

A video shared by LSG on social media captured Pooran’s priceless reaction as he bit into the chilli—paired with a piece of bread for some relief. The fiery bite left him stunned, and LSG captain Rishabh Pant was seen consoling him as the heat kicked in. While Pooran has effortlessly handled world-class bowlers on the field, it was this green chilli that nearly had him bowled over.

Thankfully, salvation arrived in the form of Mishti Doi, the beloved Bengali sweet yogurt. “Don’t worry, we gave Nicky a big bowl of Mishti Doi after this,” the franchise wrote, poking fun in the caption.

On the cricketing front, LSG sits fifth on the points table with three wins in five games. Alongside Pooran, Mitchell Marsh has also been in sublime touch, smashing four fifties and amassing 265 runs at a blistering strike rate of 180. Aiden Markram, after a slow start, has shown signs of form with scores of 53 and 47 in his last two outings.

LSG will next lock horns with Gujarat Titans on Saturday, April 12, in what promises to be another thrilling encounter.
