Perth Scorchers’ Nick Hobson provided a dramatic and fortuitous turn of events in the 35th game of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24 against Brisbane Heat at the Optus Stadium in Perth. Opting to bat first, the Scorchers found themselves in a precarious position at 83/5.

However, Nick Hobson, coming in lower down the order, played a crucial role in rescuing the innings. His explosive knock not only took his team past the 160-run mark but also set a challenging total for the opposition.

In a moment of luck, during the final ball of the innings bowled by Paul Walter, Nick Hobson got an inside edge that crashed onto the stumps but remarkably, the bails stayed intact. Seizing the opportunity, Hobson and his partner managed to take a run, leaving the bowling team in disbelief.

Cooper Connolly (35) and Laurie Evans (26) also played vital roles in the innings. Michael Neser was the standout bowler for Brisbane Heat, claiming 2 wickets for 21 runs.

 

In the chase, Brisbane Heat got off to a promising start with Josh Brown (29) and Jimmy Peirson (42) providing a solid opening partnership. However, after their dismissal, the Scorchers’ bowlers, led by Andrew Tye (4 wickets) and Lance Morris (3 wickets), made a strong comeback.

Despite Max Bryant’s effort of 29 runs, the Heat batsmen struggled against the Scorchers’ attack. In the end, the Brisbane Heat was bowled out for just 128 runs, handing Perth Scorchers a convincing 35-run victory.
