Young and talented batter Nitish Kumar Reddy made headlines following a stunning maiden century in the ongoing Boxing Day Test at the MCG. However, he has revealed his unhappiness over his bowling currently and hopes to improve his role as a proper allrounder as well. He was also pleased about proving his doubters wrong with his ton.

“My expectation was to be a pure all-rounder,” Nitish said after the fourth day’s play. “I know still I need to work a little bit more on my bowling. I’m still not happy with the way I’m bowling. I hope I come back strong. I want to fulfil that all-rounder slot in the coming days,” he added. “I know some people doubted me like (how) a youngster who played IPL, who came here and he can’t perform in such a big series. I know a lot of people talk about that and I just want to make them feel wrong about what they have said about me and that’s what I’m doing. I want to make people know that I’m here to give my 100% for the Indian team.”
While talking about those nervous last few moments before bringing up his century, Nitish Kumar Reddy was happy that his century came in the presence of his father who was in the stands and also applauded Mohammad Siraj as well for his contribution.

“I feel so happy that it’s my first century and my father is here from my country and it’s a special moment for me,” he said. “I helped my team in a difficult situation where we can fight back strong, so that was a special century for me and for my father as well. And yeah the crowd went crazy after Siraj’s last ball defence, even my century was not that loud, I guess, but I really loved the way Siraj came and approached the three balls and I should thank him.”

“I can see my last three years, two years, how hard I have been working on my batting and bowling,” he again shared. “Obviously fitness is main for me as an all-rounder and I have kept pushing myself and after the first IPL season, I realised what I have to improve on my batting and I came up with it when I got the off phase. I have worked a lot on my batting and that is what is working now and as I mentioned that it is not about one month or two months, but I have done the work from the last two, three years to come here.”

“About batting order, we haven’t discussed anything yet. If you ask me, I think everyone is capable of playing on this pitch, there is no one not capable of playing and we will come back strong. What we have done in the first innings, we will rectify the mistakes, we will rectify to correct it in the second innings and we will look at it. We have to first take the last wicket and then we will plan accordingly,” Nitish Kumar Reddy concluded.
