Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder Nitish Reddy believes his team can take a page out of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s remarkable turnaround last season as they fight to keep their IPL 2025 playoff hopes alive. Hyderabad, who snapped a two-game losing streak with a crucial five-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings, are clinging to their chances, currently sitting eighth on the points table.

After the much-needed victory in Chennai, Nitish spoke about the belief within the camp. “The thought for the team was to take it one match at a time, and it worked out well. We’re proud to get this win and hopefully we can carry the momentum forward,” Nitish Reddy said during the post-match presentation.

Speaking about his steady partnership with Kamindu Mendis, he added, “We just focused on playing normal cricket without trying to go for big shots unnecessarily.” Drawing inspiration from RCB’s heroics in IPL 2024, Nitish said, “Last year, RCB won seven in a row from a similar situation. Why not us? The goal is simple — give 100 per cent and see where it takes us.”

Hyderabad’s latest win lifted them to six points from nine matches, while Chennai, reeling from their fourth consecutive home defeat, languish at the bottom with just four points. CSK’s struggles at the MA Chidambaram Stadium have now matched their worst home records from 2008 and 2012.

In the game, Ishan Kishan laid the platform with a responsible 44 off 34 balls. Later, Kamindu Mendis (32* off 22) and Nitish Reddy (19* off 13) calmly steered Hyderabad to victory with an unbeaten 49-run stand, ensuring a crucial two points for their side.

However, Hyderabad’s road to the playoffs is steep — they must win all their remaining five matches, and preferably by significant margins, to have a realistic shot at finishing with 16 points. Their next challenge awaits against the Gujarat Titans on May 2, away from home.
