No overstepping please!

The modern-day rules of the game do not allow a bowler to bowl a no-ball, especially in the limited-overs format for it is followed by a free-hit. Having said that, the bowlers tend to overstep irrespective of how much practice they do. It is just one of those errors which happens for a bowler.

Call it a sheer accident, a disturbance in rhythm or a bowler not being in form, a no-ball is similar to a sin on a cricket field. What hurts the most is that when spinners, who generally bowl with a short run-up, indulge in the practice of over stepping in cricket.

It is not just about over stepping. A ball can be signalled as a no-ball even when it reaches the batsman without any tip and at a height above his waist. A batsman is given a free hit in that situation as well.
