Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, admitted that cricket was never on his radar before his interaction with Kohli. However, their friendship changed his perspective entirely.

“Yes, Virat is a friend and someone I respect and admire,” Novak Djokovic said in an interview. “He’s actually the reason why I started following cricket. I hadn’t followed it before, but through him, I began to take a deeper interest.”

The Serbian great also hinted at a possible collaboration with Kohli in India, which would excite fans of both sports.

“We keep in touch, and hopefully, when I come to India, he can join me,” Novak Djokovic shared. “We could play a bit of tennis and cricket, have fun, and spread positive vibes while celebrating sport.”

Speaking during the Laureus Sports Awards in Madrid, Djokovic expressed his admiration for Indian fans and confirmed his desire to visit the country soon. His connection with India, he said, has grown stronger over the years thanks to the support he has received.

“My message is always love, respect, and appreciation for Indian fans,” he added. “I’ve been feeling a strong calling to visit India for the past few years.”

Novak Djokovic even went a step further, suggesting that a visit is not a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when.’ “I really hope to come to India soon — to host an event, play a match, or simply connect with people,” he said. This unique bond between Djokovic and Kohli highlights how sport continues to bridge cultures, inspiring connections beyond boundaries.
