West Indies pace bowler Obed McCoy said that Rohit Sharma’s early dismissal gave his team the much-needed momentum in the second T20I against India on Monday, August 1 at Warner Park in St Kitts. McCoy removed the Indian captain for a golden duck after the hosts opted to field first.

Rohit scored a match-winning fifty in the first T20I at Brian Lara Stadium but failed to leave a mark in the second match. McCoy, on the other hand, went on to get the Player of the Match award after he picked up a six-wicket haul and also bowled a maiden in his quota of four overs spell as well.

“It’s a great feeling coming up against a top team like India. They have a lot of T20 stars and they play great cricket all the time. I won’t say I have a favourite wicket, but I am happy that I got Rohit out because he made some runs in the previous innings he played. I think that put the rest of the batters under pressure losing him that early in the game,” Obed McCoy was quoted as saying in the post-match press conference.

“Rohit’s wicket gave us the momentum. Extra bounce off the pitch really helped. It’s just about hitting the right areas and getting the batters to play where you want them to,” he further added.

Earlier, during the post-match presentation ceremony, Obed McCoy has dedicated his stunning spell of bowling to his sick mother as well. On the back of McCoy’s spell, West Indies successfully beat India by five wickets in the second T20I and managed to level the five-match T20I series as well. While chasing 139, Brandon King’s half-century and Devon Thomas’s unbeaten 19-ball 31 took the West Indies team over the finish line with ease. The third T20I is slated to take place on Tuesday, August 2 at the same venue in St Kitts as well.
