IPL 2022 will witness a lot of changes in the teams as a mega auction is scheduled to take place ahead of the 15th edition of the cash-rich league. Moreover, two more new franchises are also going to become part of the Indian Premier League in the next season. Due to the mega auctions, many players will have to leave their current team and become part of a new franchise.
According to the rules of mega auction, one franchise can only retain 5 players. Out of these 5 players, 3 must be domestic players while 2 must be overseas players. All 8 franchises have a maximum of 25 players at present, out of which there are 8 overseas players in each squad. Hence, during the IPL 2022 auction, each franchise will have to release some crucial players from their squad. Here we look at one big player from each team who might not be retained in IPL 2022 auction.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) – MS Dhoni
In Chennai Super Kings skipper, MS Dhoni, who is 39 years old has always been a crucial cog who might be released by the franchise during IPL 2022 auction. Retaining him means signing a minimum of a three-year contract and that’s not worth it for a player of his age. For the domestic players, CSKmight retains Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, and Deepak Chahar. Chennai Super Kings also have promising opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, who can also be expected to retain his place in the squad in IPL 2022. In such a situation, CSK might release Dhoni from the squad. Also, CSK pays a huge amount of ₹15 crores to Dhoni every season.
Delhi Capitals (DC) – Shikhar Dhawan
Delhi Capitals can be expected to release someone like, Shikhar Dhawan from their squad in IPL 2022. For the 3 domestic players, DC has strong players like Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, and Ravichandran Ashwin. Pacer Avesh Khan has also emerged as a crucial domestic bowler for the Capitals after his phenomenal outing in IPL 2021. With so many options for domestic players, Delhi Capitals might have to compromise Shikhar Dhawan in IPL 2022 auctions.
