Saint Lucia Kings’ fast bowler Oshane Thomas endured a nightmare outing in match 13 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025 against Guyana Amazon Warriors on Wednesday, August 27, at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet. Guyana, opting to bat first, were struggling at 95/5 by the end of the 14th over. But Thomas’ wayward 15th over shifted momentum completely.

The right-arm quick leaked 33 runs in that single over, undoing the Kings’ grip on the match. His over began with back-to-back boundaries before a front-foot no-ball and a wide derailed his rhythm. Romario Shepherd capitalised, smashing a six off another no-ball before depositing another full-toss over the roof at deep square-leg.

The misery continued as Iftikhar Ahmed ended the over with a towering six, leaving Thomas visibly dejected. Although he had dismissed Shai Hope earlier, Thomas’ final figures of 1/63 in four overs became the most expensive spell of CPL 2025 so far. To his credit, he delivered a more disciplined final over, conceding just 12 runs, but the damage was already done.

Powered by Shepherd’s blistering unbeaten 73 off just 34 balls, Guyana posted 202/6 in their 20 overs. Yet, their total wasn’t enough on a batting-friendly surface. Saint Lucia Kings’ young star Ackeem Auguste produced a counter-attacking masterclass, smashing 73 off 35 balls.

His fearless stroke play guided the Kings to a stunning chase of 203 in just 18.1 overs, securing a four-wicket win and leaving Thomas’ poor spell overshadowed by his teammate’s brilliance. This clash highlighted the unpredictability of T20 cricket — one over can swing the momentum, but it takes a collective effort to finish the job.
