The Pakistan cricket team has once again found itself in the headlines for off-field controversy following a disciplinary issue involving a player during the T20 World Cup. According to a report by Telecom Asia Sport, a member of the Pakistan squad was fined after allegedly misbehaving with a female hotel staff member in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The incident reportedly occurred shortly before Pakistan’s final Super 8 clash against the Sri Lankan cricket team.

As per the report, the cricketer allegedly behaved inappropriately with a female housekeeping staff member at the team hotel. The situation escalated when the staff member raised an alarm, prompting other hotel employees to quickly intervene and bring the matter under control. The incident was soon reported to Pakistan’s team manager Naveed Cheema.

Hotel officials at the Golden Crown Hotel were said to be unhappy with the situation and reportedly demanded strict disciplinary action against the player. However, Cheema apologised to the hotel management on behalf of the cricketer and handled the matter internally. The player was fined for misconduct, and the matter was temporarily resolved on the spot.

While the player’s identity has not been made public, the issue may not end there. Reports suggest that the cricketer could be asked to appear before the Pakistan Cricket Board upon the team’s return home, where further disciplinary action might be considered.

The controversy comes at a difficult time for the Pakistan team, which endured a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign. Despite competitive performances in the Super 8 stage, Pakistan failed to qualify for the semifinals due to a lower net run rate.

The incident has also reignited conversations around player conduct during international tours. Pakistan cricket has faced similar controversies in the past. In one notable case, young batter Haider Ali was arrested in England during a Pakistan Shaheens tour over serious allegations, though the case was later dropped due to insufficient evidence. Another earlier incident involved team masseur Malang Ali, who was fined for misconduct during a tour of Malaysia.

Such incidents continue to highlight the importance of discipline and professionalism for players representing their country on the global stage.
