Pakistan’s president, Shehbaz Sharif has become the latest addition to the ‘Pak Bean’ saga after his team’s loss against Zimbabwe at the World T20. The politician tweeted while replying to the Zimbabwean President’s remark about the Pakistani comedian, including congratulations to the African outfit for their triumph. Zimbabwe shocked one and all with a win over Pakistan at the ICC World T20 in a nail-biting thriller.
Despite managing to post a below posting a paltry 130/8 batting first, their bowlers, led by Sikandar Raza, helped their side to script one of the most memorable victories in their cricket history. Sean Williams was the leading run-getter as he smashed 311 off 28 balls. Chasing down 131 seemed to be an easy task for Pakistan as they had a solid opening pair of Mohammed Rizwan and Babar Azam, However, Zimbabwe’s bowling unit hit the right areas consistently making the contest a close one.

Sikandar Raza struck with a brilliant spell, taking three wickets while Brad Evans chipped in with a couple of wickets as well. A lone resistance from Shan Masood, who scored 44 runs, was of no help as the equation was boiled down to 11 runs from the last six balls. It was a topsy-turvy final over as Pakistan looked on their way to getting over the line after Mohammad Wasim smashed a boundary on the previous ball.
However, Brad Evans bowled the last two balls outside off in areas where the batters failed to connect the ball well. Just when Pakistan needed three runs to win on the last ball, Ervine was completely alert to quickly throw the ball back to the wicketkeeper after collecting it to secure a remarkable win.

The drama had already started ahead of the encounter, however, as a comment on the PCB’s tweet featuring its players’ training for the game. A Zimbabwean user, with the handle name Ngugi Chasura, revealed how the country had received Pakistani impersonator Asif Muhammad in 2016 after having been promised Rowan Atkinson who plays the famous character of ‘Mr. Bean.’
Chasura had thus issued a warning to the Men in Green to be aware of their rivals on the field and after the stunning victory, Zimbabwe President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa further propelled the matter by reneging Pakistan to send ‘the real Mr. Bean.’ However, just when the drama seemed to be heading to a close, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif decided to join in on the fun with an acknowledgment of the saga while adding congratulations to Zimbabwe for their triumph over the Asian giants.
We may not have the real Mr Bean, but we have real cricketing spirit .. and we Pakistanis have a funny habit of bouncing back 🙂
Mr President: Congratulations. Your team played really well today. 👏 https://t.co/oKhzEvU972
