Pakistan Super League Suffers Similar Fate, Knockouts Postponed

The Pakistan Cricket Board has postponed the remainder of the Pakistan Super League due to CoronaVirus Outbreak. PSL had completed it’s group stage. The remaining knockout games and the semi-finals were scheduled to be played in Lahore on Tuesday.

“HBL PSL 2020 postponed, to be rescheduled. More details to follow in due course,” the PCB tweeted from its official handle.

A  few hours later, PSL’s official twitter account shared more details after a press conference by PCB CEO Wasim Khan and PCB COO Salman Naseer.

Multan Sultans had to face Peshawar Zalmi at the Gaddafi Stadium, while Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars locked horns at the same venue in the evening.

Pakistan’s Cricket board is also forced to cancel their upcoming ODI against Bangladesh which was scheduled to be played next month. All the domestic tournaments have also been suspended for the safety of people.

The PSL had seen numerous withdrawals by foreign players in the last few days and most had left the event to return home in view of the pandemic that has claimed more than 7,000 lives internationally.

The widespread outbreak of pandemic l COVID-19  has affected the globe significantly. The pandemic has claimed over 7,000 lives and infected close to 175,000 people world over.  Pakistan has also suffered fro the deadly virus. There have been 184 positive cases of Pakistani nationals being affected by the virus while writing this.

Many Major global sporting events have also been halted because of the outbreak of CoronaVirus. It has caused a collapse of sports events worldwide. 2020 was a year for all sports fans as there were major sports events like the Olympics, Euro 2020 and Copa America were scheduled. However, the mega-events might be postponed or cancel to avoid mass gathering and avoid the risk of spreading the infection among people.

England’s tour of Lanka,  New Zealand’s tour to Australia for an ODI series as well as India’s 3 match ODI series against South Africa, all have been scrapped, Beforehand, Australia and India were supposed to host their rivals and continue with the matches behind closed doors. Eventually, those series were all postponed for the safety of players.

The upcoming edition of IPL, scheduled to begin on March 29 is also postponed. The biggest franchised based cricketing event is now rescheduled to begin on April 15 onwards.
