The International Cricket Council (ICC) has firmly decided against revising the schedule of the T20 World Cup 2026, despite a formal request from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to shift Bangladesh’s matches out of India due to security concerns. The decision has reportedly disappointed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which had extended its support to Bangladesh during ICC discussions.

“Pakistan backed Bangladesh’s stance on principles because, on India’s insistence, their matches were moved out from Pakistan to Dubai, but the same reason by Bangladesh was not accepted, which is disappointing,” the report quoted sources as saying. The contrast, officials believe, highlights a lack of uniformity in decision-making at the highest level.

Despite this dissatisfaction, PCB sources were clear that withdrawal was never on the table. “Pakistan is considering various options, but withdrawal from the event is never an option nor was it considered,” the sources added. With Pakistan already scheduled to play its matches at a neutral venue, officials see no practical or security-based justification for boycotting a global ICC event.

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal echoed these sentiments, stating that the ICC’s verdict was largely expected. He also reiterated a long-standing criticism that several ICC decisions appear to favour India due to its commercial influence.

“Most of the ICC decisions prove they are in favour of India, and this should not happen. All member countries deserve equal treatment,” Kamran said. He cited the Champions Trophy and the hybrid hosting model of the 2023 Asia Cup as examples where India’s preferences were prioritised, reinforcing ongoing concerns about fairness in global cricket governance.
