Freedom of speech is a fundamental right that is particularly vital in journalism, where its importance is magnified. However, expressing opinions should aim to foster meaningful and constructive discourse. This principle was put to the test by prominent Pakistani journalist Farid Khan, who sparked a heated debate on X by posting a collage of two left-handed cricketers, India’s Sourav Ganguly and Pakistan’s Imam-ul-Haq. The caption soliciting followers’ opinions on which batter was superior added fuel to the fire.
The post predictably attracted significant backlash, as seen in the varied and critical responses in the comments section. The discussion quickly devolved into resentment and widespread questioning of the comparison’s validity.

On one hand, we have Sourav Ganguly, an iconic figure in cricket with an impressive record of 18,575 runs over a career spanning 424 international matches. Ganguly’s contributions to Indian cricket are legendary, and his legacy is well-established. On the other hand, Imam-ul-Haq, at 28 years old, has just over a quarter of Ganguly’s run tally and has yet to firmly establish himself in the international arena.
