Delhi Capitals’ co-owner Parth Jindal did not hold back his emotions after the team’s playoff hopes were dashed in IPL 2025. Following a crushing 59-run defeat to Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on May 21, Jindal acknowledged the franchise’s disappointing second-half performance and indicated that serious introspection and potential changes lie ahead for the next season.

Delhi’s campaign began with a promise, but it ended in heartbreak. The loss to the Mumbai Indians, led by Hardik Pandya, officially knocked them out of contention for the playoffs. While MI sealed the fourth and final spot with the win, DC was left to reflect on what went wrong in the latter stages of the tournament.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Jindal shared a candid and heartfelt message with fans: “Sorry to all @DelhiCapitals fans – like you, I too am reeling from the second half of the season. What started so well ended extremely poorly. There are positives to take from this campaign but for now, all focus on the next game which we need to win. Post the season there will need to be a lot of introspection on a lot of aspects.”

Delhi’s performance in the match further highlighted their recent struggles. Batting first, Mumbai Indians posted 180/5. In reply, Delhi never got going and were bowled out for a mere 121 in 18.2 overs. The middle-order collapse and lack of partnerships have become a recurring theme for DC this season.

Head coach Hemang Badani addressed the team’s woes in the post-match press conference, specifically pointing out the instability at the top of the order. “A settled opening pair is only possible when your openers give you good starts,” Badani remarked. “Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to capitalise on the power plays like other teams. That has been a key area of concern.”

Delhi Capitals were flying high in the initial phase of IPL 2025, winning four consecutive matches and topping the table. But as the tournament progressed, their momentum fizzled. Four straight defeats in the second half exposed weaknesses in their batting depth and match consistency.

Now with six wins and six losses from 13 games, DC will aim to salvage some pride when they face Punjab Kings on May 24 in their final league game. While the playoffs are out of reach, a strong finish could provide some hope and direction ahead of a crucial off-season for the franchise.
