In a crucial development ahead of Match 63 in IPL 2025, Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal has reportedly written to the BCCI, requesting a venue change for their high-stakes clash against Mumbai Indians, scheduled for Wednesday night at the Wankhede Stadium. Citing the heavy rain forecast in Mumbai, Jindal argued that the game could be entirely washed out, which would significantly impact the playoff race.

He urged the BCCI to relocate the match “in the quest for consistency,” referencing the recent venue change for the RCB vs LSG game, which was moved out of Bengaluru due to similar weather concerns. Jindal’s email reportedly highlighted that the rain forecast for May 21 had been known for nearly a week, stressing that the BCCI should take proactive steps to ensure a fair outcome.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, and showers briefly disrupted DC’s practice session at Wankhede on Tuesday evening, around 8 PM IST.

This match holds immense significance in the playoff equation. Mumbai Indians currently sit fourth with 14 points, while Delhi Capitals trail just behind in fifth with 13 points. A win for MI would seal their playoff berth, while DC must win to keep their hopes alive. However, if the game is washed out, both teams will receive one point each, leaving their qualification dependent on the outcomes of their final league fixtures.

A late venue change could prove controversial, but it might also be the only way to ensure a result in this playoff-deciding battle.
